Two indicators which I use to spot if someone is in love are the way they hold their partner and the way look at them. In your favorite Disney films, primetime television series, romantic novels or may be in real life, you must have seen and realized others may have experienced it themselves.
The lover could be silently yearning for that someone, sometimes even caught up in their own thoughts, looking from afar or looking away when that someone looks back in their direction. In such cases, it’s often the people around them who notice those looks. As for couples, it’s the way they look into each other’s eyes, with that same enchanted atmosphere; as if entranced in pixie dust and caught up in another world, looking undeniably happy together. Still, whether or not the person they love is looking back doesn’t really matter; there’s always that longing, lingering stare that may or may not is accompanied by a smile. No, it’s not lusting in those eyes; it’s love. I don’t know how you draw the line between the two, but when a person is in love, there’s happiness, a new sense of life in those eyes.
Then there’s the hold, that embraces that they share. It may be a hug between friends, with secret unrequited feelings; it may be the embrace of lovers, holding tight to one another. Again, there’s always that thin line, yet somehow I can’t help noticing how heartfelt that embrace can be. It communicates how precious that person is, how much they value that person, how they wish they didn’t have to pull away. It’s the embrace of their love almost faced certain death; the same one when the love was almost lost to another; that similar hold between the happily married couple. And I love how you can never see the face of someone you’re hugging. To me, it’s a metaphor for giving your love, without an assurance of what the other thinks or how they would react. Lucky for viewers like us, Hollywood actors, directors, and cameras focus on those beautiful moments for us to see, if only as an observer.
More than the passionate kiss, the unbreakable hand-holding, and the sweet words exchanged, there’s an unfathomable magic about those two gestures, always different from how they look or how they hold other people. I’m sure you’ve seen it too, and maybe even wished that someone would do the same for you.
