Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt released the first trailer for his comeback film, Bhoomi, Thursday afternoon and is already impressing fans. It already has more than 7,000 YouTube hits within minutes of the trailer release. Ranbir Kapoor was also present at the trailer launch in Mumbai.
Bhoomi is a revenge drama that tells the story of a father and a daughter. Sanjay plays the father while Aditi Rao Hydari essays the role of his daughter in the film. Shekhar Suman will also be seen playing Sanjay’s friend. Sharad Kelkar and TV actor Sidhant Gupta also feature in Bhoomi.
The trailer shows Sanjay and Aditi who share a strong bond but a tragic turn of events gives a traumatic twist to their lives. At almost three minutes, the video may seem slightly lengthy but brings forth the anger and the love that a hurt father nurtures. Some of the scenes are high on melodrama and clichéd Bollywood dialogues but overall, the trailer is heart-wrenching.
The Vaastav star released the film on his daughter Trisha’s birthday that falls on August 10. Bhoomi marks Sanjay’s return to the silver screen after serving his jail term. He was last seen in Aamir Khan-Anushka Sharma-starer PK (2014).
During the launch, when Ranbir was asked about Sanjay, the actor revealed, “I know Sanju sir since my childhood. But when we started working on the biopic, I felt that this cannot be a biopic. It’s actually a science fiction film because for one person to live such a life is something I could not understand. How can someone live such a life? It was just yesterday when Sanju sir messaged me and said that trailer launch pe aa jao and then I realized that arre yeh toh mera trailer launch ho raha hai.”
“Phir peeche se ek doosre Ranbir ne mujhe tapli diya aur kaha ke tum kabhi Sanjay Dutt ban nahi sakte. It is Sanju sir’s trailer launch that you have to attend. For a year, I tried to emulate him. I pray that I did it well because he is a very important person. Not just in the industry but in the country. Something that we all can learn from his life, we can take so much from his life. But, when I think about the biopic and his life, I always think that this is a science fiction film. It is not a dramatic or a romantic film.”
Whereas, Sanjay said about Ranbir, “He’s been a very special part of my life. Not because of the biopic but just because of him growing up and his family’s relationship with my family.”
Bhoomi, that was supposed to hit theatres on August 4 was shifted to a September 22 release to avoid a clash with Aamir Khan-Zaira Wasim-starrer “Secret Superstar”.
